Lawn Care Instructions

Water is the most important part of growing new lawn!! What is not watered sufficiently will not grow. Keep your ground sufficiently damp during the germination period. You can over water if your lawn is always staying soggy. Just a nice consistent damp look is what you need. May the following suggested guidelines help you care for your newly hydroseeded area. Call us two weeks after application if germination has not occurred or there are areas where there is no growth.
Watering:
Always keep soil moist 5-6 inches below the surface. Keep surface damp at all times throughout the day. Do not water area without some type of sprinkler.
Automatic Sprinkler Systems: Water the area frequently for short periods of time during the day. Depending on soil drainage and outdoor temperature, we suggest watering 3 to 5 times a day, and 10 to 20 minutes per watering. If area stays muddy from one watering cycle to the next, slightly reduce watering time per cycle.
Regular Sprinkler Systems: We suggest using an impact head type of sprinkler, which covers a large area at one time. Water heavily 2 to 3 times every day for an hour or so each time. A mid-day watering is highly recommended.
Mowing & Fertilization:
Mowing of the area is estimated at around 5-6 weeks. After first mowing start deep soakings 2 or 3 times a week instead of daily watering. Regular fertilization is important for a well-maintained lawn. The hydroseeding application contains fertilizer. This fertilizer lasts a few weeks. An indicator of needed fertilizer is the presence of yellow areas of grass, and/or areas that do not grow in height over time. Fertilize 3 weeks after hydroseed application. Select a slow-release fertilizer high in nitrogen or 16-16-16. Use manufacturers recommended amount. This process should be repeated 3-4 weeks later. Make sure to water sufficiently the day of fertilization to avoid nitrogen burn.
Make sure to water sufficiently during fertilization process to avoid burn.
Other Questions/Concerns:
Light foot traffic can be tolerated for watering purposes. Large dogs should be removed from area until first mowing. The area is established and ready for normal traffic usually in 5-6 weeks.
Weeds will appear in any newly seeded lawn. By keeping the area regularly mowed, the lawn will overcome most weeds. The area should be treated with some type of weed control after the fourth mowing cycle.
